Hunting with golden eagles is a centuries-old tradition in Kyrgyzstan, still practiced today by a few families. Only the stronger female eagles hunt in close cooperation with the Kyrgyz people during the winter months in the mountains. In summer, young animals are spared, and instead, Salavat trains daily with his birds of prey. With their powerful talons, the eagles take down foxes, jackals, deer, and even wolves. The meat feeds the birds, while the pelts are used to make warm clothing.
